Since July 2020 I am commuting between Curaçao and the Netherlands. I am in the Netherlands for about a month and a month in Curaçao. So I can easily compare the differences between the two countries.

  • There we have a curfew since mid-novemer. And nobody thinks that's a problem.
  • No alcohol should be served for a whole period. No one made a problem out of that. Ok of course there are also secret parties and the like.
  • From here on Curaçao it is mainly a lot of talk and little action while the Netherlands is getting worse and worse.
  • What is being communicated is clear and above all unambiguous. People listen and apply it. No whining.
  • There are currently almost no daily new infections here, so measures have simply worked. Also there is no extra peak due to the holidays.
  • It strikes me what you read in the Netherlands about the islands is often super negative and just factually incorrect.

Curfew per 15-11-20

According to Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath, the number of infections and the situation in the hospital are two important indicators for taking new measures. On Sunday, Rhuggenaath said in a special message to the population that the situation on the island has gotten out of control.

Therefore, new, stricter measures apply from Monday, such as a curfew from 9:00 to 04:30, and curfew is currently valid from 23:00. As a result, all shops and restaurants should close by 20:00. Furthermore, the government makes the wearing of a mouthcap compulsory for everyone over 18 years old in shops, at funerals and in public transport. Furthermore, more attention will be paid to safety in the workplace, not only in contact with customers. But also between colleagues.

In Curaçao we are already finishing the curfew.
