FREE Crochet Pattern - Cacti & Succulents (part 4)

FREE Crochet Pattern - Cacti & Succulents (part 4)

Welcome back! Are you ready for part four of my cacti & succulents crochet pattern? In this part we are going to make an Echeveria, that’s a succulent. Yay! :)

The other parts of my pattern can be found here:

Part 1 – Tall Cactus
Part 2 – Aloe Vera
Part 3 – Round Cactus
Part 4 – Echeveria
Part 5 – String of Pearls Plant
Part 6 – Foundation & Assembly

All parts of the pattern are written in US terms.

So here we go with part four of the English version of my cacti & succulents pattern (the original Dutch version of the pattern can be found here).

Echeveria

Supplies

  • Light green yarn and a small amount of purple yarn, I used acrylic worsted weight yarn
  • Crochet hook size E (3,5 mm)
  • A large tapestry needle

Quote

Note: When crocheting around your work be sure to crochet over any loose threads, this way you don’t have to weave in so many yarn ends.

Tante Koek (or Aunt Cookie for short)

Skill level

  • You need to know how to crochet a chain, slip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet and double crochet.
  • This pattern should be easy enough for beginners, but don’t hesitate to ask me any questions you might have.

Abbreviations

ST = stitch
CH = chain
SS = slip stitch
SC = single crochet
HDC = half double crochet
DC = double crochet

Quote

Note: The Echeveria is a Mexican plant named after the 19th century botanist Antansio Echeveria.

We are all set Tante Koek! Ok, let’s start!

Pattern

1.       Using the light green yarn: ch41
2.       Starting in second chain from your hook, work 2sc, ch1, 2sc all in the same st, now ss in the next two stitches.
3.       Repeat step 2 two more times, this will give you three small leaves.
4.       In the next st work 2hdc, ch1, 2hdc all in the same st, now ss in the next three stitches.
5.       Repeat step 4 three more times, this will give you four medium size leaves.
6.       In the next st work 1sc, 2dc, ch2, 2dc, 1sc all in the same st, now ss in the next three stitches.
7.       Repeat step 6 four more times, this will give you five big leaves.

You have now crocheted 12 leaves and your work should look like the example in photo 3.

1. Your work after step 2

2. Your work after step 5

3. Your work after step 7

Now let’s crochet a purple lining around your Echeveria. Start with the first sc of the small leave at the beginning of your work en pull up the purple yarn. Fasten it with a ss en work a sc in the same stitch. Work a sc in every stitch, when you get to you big leaves be sure to work 2sc in each ch2 space of the big leaves.

Your Echeveria should now look somewhat like this.

4. Start with the first small leave

5. Work sc around all the leaves

6. This is what you work should look like

You can now twist and turn your work so that it looks like the Echeveria in this picture. Be sure to put the small leaves on the inside and the big leaves on the outside.

And your Echeveria is done! Isn’t it lovely?
One of my personal favorites. :)
