What is a saw

A saw is a tool consisting of a tough blade, wire, or chain with a hard toothed edge. It is used to cut through material, very often wood though sometimes metal or stone. To saw is to do the action of cutting something, especially using a specific tool that is meant for cutting.This is a multi teeth wood cutting tool. It is usually made from hardened and tempered steel and it is of various shapes and sizes to suit the various types of jobs. Notable varieties of saw are:

Tenon saw: A tenon saw is a hand tool designed to cut wood “tenons,” which are a type of interlocking hinge or joint. The saw derives its name from its use in the cutting of tenons for mortise and tenon joinery.its major function is to cut small tenons and squaring of the end of timber

Cross cut saw: A crosscut saw is any saw designed for cutting wood perpendicular to the wood grain. Crosscut saws may be small or large, with small teeth close together for fine work like woodworking or large for coarse work like log bucking, and can be a hand.it is used for cutting across the grain of the wood. The blade is thinner towards the back to give free running of the kert. The teeth have different shapes compared to the rip saw.

Panel saw: Panel saws are used to cut large sheet materials into smaller rectangular sections and pieces.this is an all round saw and is primarily used for ripping, cross cutting and cutting large tenons and plywood. It has 10 to 12 teeth per 25mm length.The teeth have knife-like cutting action.

Dovetail saw: this is another version of tenon saw with an open handle.it is a small back saw with thin blade, fine teeth, and straight handle used for accurate work (as in cabinetmaking and patternmaking).The blade has two teeth per 25mm length. It is primarily used for cutting dovetails, small moulding and very fine work
