I call myself an Eftelingophile. I don't know if the word exists, but I have my own words. So I love the Efteling. More than fond even, but since the covid I haven't been there last year and this year and I miss it. But luckily I still have the photos. ☺

I want to talk about Anton Pieck, the founder of this amazing park. Anton Pieck my big hero.
You know I don't really have the wildest talent for drawing, but I can really appreciate others who can do it. Seems to be able to draw wonderfully.
The love for Anton Piek's drawings was in early. My mother, a big fan, had a book of his “His life, his work.”.
For hours I was able to browse and watch. The cover is therefore something that ruffled. There is so much to see in his drawings. In addition, I really love the atmosphere of his drawings. It has something pleasurable, cozy, something warm.
Why do you suddenly start over the Efteling and Anton Pieck?

My external hard drive (from the year jug) was killed and I got a bit of that, because there's a huge bin of info, photos and music on it.
Fortunately, my PC doctor was able to save the data and that's how I got a modern external hard drive home and when I checked it, the first thing I saw was Anton Pieck's drawings.

I will have been about 19 years when I read somewhere that Anton Pieck was going to sign his new book 'The Netherlands' in a bookstore in Apeldoorn. Well that timing was perfect because I was working on a thesis about him and would give a talk about it the next week.
How cool would it be, if under my thesis were his signature. So cool!
Traveled to Apeldoorn with a girlfriend in all the cold and rain, up to Anton.
We hooked up in line, but we were definitely the youngest.
Nervousness increased more and more. No idea what to tell him.
I pulled out my thesis and gave it to him and asked if he wanted to sign my thesis.
But of course I want to, he said.
I seem to remember that he also asked what school I was in and how I reach out to him. What I do remember for sure is that he said I'm probably the youngest fan of his work.
I'm grunting, huh, grunting.
So now I just want to take the thesis to take a picture of the signature. Dissertation gone. Not to find.
