2023 Mazda CX-5 review
The Mazda CX-5 is a compact crossover SUV that can accommodate up to five passengers. Its current generation has topped our rankings for years, thanks to its excellent interior and great driving dynamics for a compact SUV in this price range. Apparently, consumers agree that the CX-5 is a compelling choice in its class, as it is the most popular vehicle in Mazda's lineup.
However, Mazda has an important decision to make regarding the CX-5. This year Mazda launched the CX-50, which has the same interior and exterior dimensions, but is designed and packaged with a more outdoorsy type of buyer in mind. The CX-5, on the other hand, is aimed at city and suburban dwellers. The CX-50 ranks above the CX-30 and below the upcoming CX-70 and CX-90 in Mazda's lineup. Which leaves the CX-5, well, just where?
It's been seven years since the CX-5 was completely redesigned, and we don't think the name of this car will last long. It simply doesn't fit Mazda's new SUV range or the automaker's new naming conventions. But hey, this is a conversation about the future. For now, the 2023 CX-5 is still a good choice for a small SUV.
