Het Balinese Nieuw Jaar (Nyepi) valt dit jaar op 22 maart, de dag na de negende nieuwe maand van de Çaka kalender.
Op de avond van deze negende nieuwe maand worden er met veel lawaai afzichtelijke wezens (ogoh-ogoh) op bamboe platforms rondgedragen door de straten waarna ze op het strand worden verbrand.
Die wezen symboliseren de 'boze geesten' die het leven van de mens verstoren.
Op de dag van Nyepi is van zonsopgang tot zonsopgang de volgende dag overal stil. Er is dan geen verkeer, niemand mag naar buiten, lichten en geluid zijn verboden, zelfs het vliegveld van Bali is dan gesloten en er is geen Internet (kun je het je voorstellen?)
De 'boze geesten' denken dan dat Bali verlaten is, waarop ze zelf ook Bali zullen verlaten en naar Nusa Penida gaan, een eilandje voor de oostkust van Bali.

There is no Nyepi in Nusa Penida? So this year, on March 22. Do you also make such an image yourself or do you walk with the carriers? I loved the 1st x to experience this. And all those images you can see all along the way. Keep enjoying are real works of art. This one in the picture too!!

I think it's more of a form of carnival once I've looked at the picture. Although the approach of the people who make these kinds of images is, of course, quite different.

No, I can't imagine you believing this. Just like I'm still surprised that there are people who still believe in ghosts in angry/evil, at all. Must be in the genes.
