5 TYPES OF RACISM
#Thoughtprovoking Racism is a hot debate in our modern world and it's a widely discussed subject. As we have seen and discussed before racism can come in many shapes and forms but no matter what the form of racism it's something that shouldn't be accepted by anybody. The most common way that people use racism is through language being verbally abusive saying things that they shouldn't say and doing things that they shouldn't do. But that won't stop anybody from being racist unless we take measures and make society realize that being racist is not the way that we should treat others or be treated. As I said before racism can come in many shapes and forms and some of those shapes are cultural racism, economic, aversive racism, institutional racism, etc.
1. Aversive Racism
We've seen many times or we've been in the situation when a group or a person don't socialize with another person or a group of people that are from a different ethnicity or race or even skin colour. Aversive racism is mostly based or relies on the attitude or the different attitude that a group of people shows against another group of people with a different ethnicity or race. Another side to aversive racism is that people are at a crossroads or in a conflict with themselves on the prejudice and the negative thoughts and feeling that they have for a person or a group of people. Aversive racism is more passive and different from overt racism since overt racism focuses more on the hatred or the discrimination that people show against other ethnic races.
2.cultural racism
Every country has its own culture and we are different from each other not just in looks or race but also in culture. Within a state or a country we see many cultures mixing, people sharing their views, thoughts, experience, and the culture of the country that they come from. Cultural racism focuses on that and divides people starting from their culture. Many people are not accepting of others and thus culture became the spark that ignites cultural racism. As you can tell, it's not a pretty thing. Many people suffer because of the negative effects that cultural racism has on their lives. They feel they don't belong in society because after being judged from their race and skin they are also being judged by their culture. In present days cultural racism is often called "modern racism" and at the moment you accept there exists a cultural barrier between you and other people there is where cultural racism begins. Not only cultural racism is a serious problem but in today's society, this type of racism is even affecting kids. There have been many types where parents won't let their children play with other children of another race or a different culture and that impacts the way a child is raised and how they will view their circle of friends or people in general while growing up.
3. Economical racism
As the name suggests economical racism revolves around the economy of the state. Economical racism is about discrimination on jobs, wages, work opportunities. Economical racism its, not something that is only present in today's society but has been present for a long time starting from the 1900-s. Economical discrimination or racism doesn't only slow down the economy of a country but creates unemployment, lesser work opportunities, and jobs but impacts the families themselves. In business, we see that economical discrimination is displayed in the prices where a client is being charged a different amount of money than another client. Economical discrimination doesn't have a set rule that comes from this factor or that factor, instead, the blame gets shifted to the people who are being discriminated against because of their gender, skin colour, or being sexualized.
4. Institutional Racism
Institutions are created to keep a fair judgment between people and are the pillars that keep democracy and keep our rights safe and keep us safe. But what happens when even the institutions we believe in turn against us? That's a good question but unfortunately, we can't give a proper answer to it because as long as there is racism people will keep discriminating no matter where they are. In our case, people who are part of government institutions use their power and their authority to discriminate and not accept people who have different cultures or looks. Even though the law is above everyone and everyone should be treated the same in the eyes of the law sometimes the people who have that power abuse and treatments are different from one person to another.
