#africanroots #AfricanGiant Benedict Enwonwu (1917-1994) was a Nigerian painter and sculptor. Once dubbed Africa's greatest artist by international media, he is the first Nigerian artist to receive worldwide recognition. His works incorporated African traditional religious, Christian and contemporary art figures, notable amongst which are Christine (sold for $ 1.6 million in 2019), sculptor of Queen Elizabeth II (property of National Museum of Nigeria, Onikan), Tutu ("Nigerian Mona Lisa" sold for $ 1.4 million in 2017).
