The results of an American study showed that we lie 11 times a week. There was also another study that showed that 60 percent of people will lie in a 10-minute conversation. It has also been found that it is much easier to lie by using your smartphone than in a face-to-face conversation. Email would be the most honest form of communication, in which the least often lies.

Let's take a look at the different methods a liar uses to camouflage lies in a text message.

1. They're trying to change the subject

Someone who lies will try to change the subject of your conversation and focus on a completely different thing. They could even pretend to be hurt if you insinuate that they're lying. This is what they call “external distraction,” and while focusing on it, a liar can accuse the other person of lying. They may even try all possible ways to avoid having to answer the initial question.

2. After a quick answer, they immediately compliment you

Compliments is a method of manipulation that many people use, both in their professional life and in life beyond. It can be used by a liar to take control of a conversation and push the conversation in a different direction. And that remains a successful way because we all like to hear fine things about ourselves. The manipulator/liar knows us well enough and takes down our uncertainties at the moment it is most appropriate.

3. They remain vague

If you're not afraid to tell the truth, it's also very easy to remember the details that shape your story. But a liar will just keep everything very vague by withholding information. They don't want to give specific details, because then it's easier to find out that they haven't told the truth. By telling only half of the story, they find that they didn't really lie but only revealed half the truth.

4. They claim that there are honest and “never lie”

They are doing everything they can to be convincing and thereby underline their honesty too much. Expressions such as 'to be truth', 'believe me' and 'to tell you the truth' are often used to do so.. When a person is honest, they should not keep repeating how honest they are. Because someone uses this trick, you know they're trying to hide something from you. They emphasize their honesty too brightly.
