A balcony and gardening: 5 helpful tips
If you are a gardener at heart, then a balcony is not your first choice, would you say. Wrong! Of course, you often have less space at your disposal, but you can also get a balcony very nice green. Of course, you should choose plants that do well in containers. Below you will find 5 tips for gardening on a balcony.
1. Opt for deep baking.
When you choose deep trays, your plants can root much better. The chance that your plants will be left over until next year is therefore much higher. They get plenty of space to grow and if you give some plant food every now and then, they're already completely happy. Furthermore, when choosing baking, it is very important that you pay attention to the bottom. Excess water must be able to go away, otherwise your plants will suffer from 'wet feet'. If there are no holes at the bottom of the bins, you can of course also drill them yourself. It is most convenient to drill from the outside to the inside. You can also do this with most pots.
2. Go into height.
Vertical gardening is all in. And on a balcony it is double practical, because you save so much space. For example, you can use a pallet as a base, but you can also hang bins one above the other on the wall or on a rack. Just make sure that there is enough space between the containers, so that the plants can grow and get enough light.
3. Go for plants that flourish in containers.
Not every plant is suitable as a potted plant. If you go for bloomers, you will often end up with annual plants, such as carnations, petunias and violins, but hardy potted plants can also be found. Plants that I have good experiences with myself are hellebore and silver wind. Both plants do excellent in a spacious pot and are also fairly hardy. Does it freeze that it creaks? Then you cover these plants best. Other hardy potted plants include:
