The University Hospital in Antwerp still owns a large part of an ancient forest. It leads to our neighborhood. It contains old oaks and beech trees. Every year, as the sun sends its warm rays from behind the clouds to the still bare trees, a sea of beautiful blue-purple bluebells unfold. This happens between the middle of April and the beginning of May.

Every year, it is an enchanting show game that passers-by on the forest road fully enjoy.

All right, the flowers look good behind a wide canal. So no one can trample them. Because these bells in formation on a thin stem are very fragile.

These flower clusters love a lot of shade and they thrive on a blanket of fallen leaves. However, they also react to the amount of sun. Because the more sun rays they experience, the faster they show up.

The Latin name of this spring bloomer is Hyacinthoides-non-scripta.
