A day in the life of an online teacher...
New learning material... from a distance. That is what Ben Weyts, our fantastic minister of education, proclaimed when it was Easter holidays in Belgium.
Easter holidays... in a normal world I made long walks on La Palma with my new mountain shoes.
Now I immerse myself in PowerPoint, screenshots and YouTube.
But I fly in with full courage and enthusiasm.
I get online - teacher!
The last two days of my “vacation “I'm a courier.
With my heavily loaded bike, I cycle from mailbox to mailbox.
The whole village and a nearby village around.
I'm walking into the post office with a package for a kid who lives across the county.
Because new material... you need something for that.
During the holiday I send a test lesson to see if everyone can take a YouTube lesson.
Almost everyone responds. Still, after a couple of insists. Even the non-native families.
One family is not responding. Not on mail, not on Facebook, not on a phone call, not on a letter in the mailbox.
On Sunday my first classes are ready and I send an email with links to all parents.
Oof... I am ready!
I feel comfortable in front of television.
Monday morning. Classday 1...
7.15: My daily fruit breakfast with Greek yogurt, coconut grater and some kernels. A healthy start never hurts. Not even if you have to stay in your room.
