A dream gift

With a strange man in the elevator
The lighting behind the milky white panels flickers for a moment when the lift starts moving. Next to me is a person of very short height. He is dressed in an eye-catching silver costume. His skin is deep dark and his short, metallic curly hair shines with a blue-black glow. Without showing any sign of seeing me, he stares in front of him with piercing, jet-black eyes. I suddenly realize that I am dreaming and when I realize that, I know that my gift is revealing itself again. From experience, I know that I don't have to do anything but keep realizing that I'm dreaming and taking in the images that are being shown to me. The answer I'm looking for will then come as soon as I wake up from the dream, reveal it to me.
Getting answers
After all, the answers to questions that I consider important during my waking life are always provided to me through dreams. It's quite a thrill if you consciously realize that you're dreaming while dreaming and that you can then just keep dreaming knowing that dream will lead you to the answers you're looking for. I am therefore very happy with this gift. Perhaps the only strange thing is that, while dreaming, I am not aware of what question it is. It's only when I wake up that I realize which of the current questions I'm facing I've found the answer to. I've sometimes wondered if my gift is innate. However, I haven't found the answer to that yet. I never asked my father and unfortunately I can't ask him anymore because he passed away recently. And even if he were still alive, the question was whether he would talk about it, if he had had that gift too. Rather, he would be secretive about it, just like about those two mysterious stone balls that have obsessed him all his life. By the way, I also once found the meaning of two strange stone balls in a dream. But that's another story.
A dynamic painting
I feel how the elevator slows down and after a 'ping', the metal doors slide silently open. The dream figure slips out of the elevator and I follow him closely. The space in which we are now is bathed in a soft light that seems to come from the walls. On one of the walls hangs a painting above which the number 14 appears. I wonder if that number refers to the painting or if it is just an indication that we are fourteen years old. The dream figure glides towards the painting. I make the impetus to take a step and then start gliding forward a few centimetres above the floor. Or actually, it's more like floating than gliding. It still looks most like a skating movement where I only use my right leg. Thanks to the strength of my will, I maintain sufficient speed to get to the dream figure in front of the painting.
The painting shows Vladimir Putin in a Napoleonic costume. While I'm looking at the painting, Putin's costume suddenly becomes translucent, showing that, how strange, he has breasts and is wearing my mother's lingerie. Then the original image returns. Fascinated, I will stand for a while and stare at how the painting alternately shows those strange images. A powerful world leader who appears to be a transvestite, or is it the other way around? Then the image of Putin disappears and a religious depiction of Jesus painted by Rembrand appears, showing the wound in his side to a skeptical Thomas. Is something only real when proven, even the illusion of a dream?
An unexpected meal at a fancy restaurant
Suddenly, the dream figure slips to the right. I take my eyes off the painting and follow it towards a door that has become visible a few meters to the right of the painting. Once we reach the door, it swings open by itself. The door appears to provide access to a restaurant with a chic look. Only a small part of the neatly set tables is occupied. I slide up to one of the unoccupied tables. Right after I've sat down, the dream figure appears next to my table and serves a creamy salmon fish paté with a hint of lemon and a chilled bottle of white wine labeled La Chapelle de Sainte Rosaline. I'm thoroughly enjoying this unexpected feast, and I feel like I'm celebrating a win.
