Part 1.
“Stop that!” Sister Bernie was running down the corridor towards the convent dormitory where a bunch of boys were cheering a fight on. “Stop that at once!” she demanded. But the cheering continued unabated.
As Sister Bernie broke through the wall of cheering boys and they realised that she was there they immediately dispersed in any direction they could. Being caught cheering meant that they too would be punished.
Russel was sitting on top of Pierre, he was dishing out ‘punishment,’ to a cheeky little six-year-old in grade one that had defied his authority as his senior in the dorm. As the ten-year-old Russel’s fist came down towards Pierre’s face for the umpteenth time, Sister Bernie caught the hand in mid-air.
“I said stop that!” a furious Sister Bernie pulled Russel to his feet with a yank! “What the hell are you doing?” Russel was a bully. He had been since he came to the convent, a big boy for his age, but not big on respect and manners.
