#SCHAPEN 😍 The sheep are a genus of ungulates from the subfamily of goats of the #holhoornigen . This genus includes the sheep and its wild relatives as the #moeflon , the argali and the bitchorn sheep. Its scientific name was published in 1758 by Carl Linnaeus.
Sheep outwardly look like the #verwante #geiten (genus Capra). Male sheep (rams) can be distinguished from male goats (goats) by the lack of a goatee and the shape of the horns. Rams have long horns that curl, while the horns of goats do not curl. In some (bottom) types, the horns curl backwards, but in most (bottom) types they curl forward, behind the ears along forward. Also, rams do not have a strong body odor, like the goats. Sheep have glands behind the eyes, on the feet and in the groin. The tail is quite short. Female sheep (ewes) generally have relatively small horns, although there are some breeds of the tame sheep and subspecies of the mouflon where the females do not have horns.
Wild sheep live mainly in open plains near rocky regions. In areas where no wild goats live, such as in the Rocky Mountains, sheep also live higher in the mountains. Important enemies are the wolf and (medium) large felines such as panther, lynx, snow panther and cougar. In danger, the sheep flee in a large herd.
