Everyone who eats could participate. By not forgetting your leftovers and eating them. A simple act for a better climate!

Europe wastes more food than it imports European Union countries waste more food than they import, states a new report . To reduce rising food prices, measures against that waste are inevitable, say 40 organizations.

Last year, the European Union imported nearly 138 million tons of agricultural products, worth 150 billion euros. But at the same time, an estimated 1535 million tons of food are wasted annually in Europe, according to a report by the environmental organization Feedback EU . That figure is nearly double previous estimates, thanks to better data on farm food waste. The official European figures on food waste do not take sufficient account of those losses, says EU Feedback.

According to the report, around a fifth of food production in the EU is currently being lost. The waste costs businesses and families in the EU around 143 billion euros a year and causes at least 6% of the EU's total greenhouse gas emissions. By halving EU food waste by 2030, 47 million hectares of agricultural land could be saved, according to the report.
