A year ago I posted a review about the Achilleion Palace on Corfu, Greece. Now this review is also available in other languages: German and English.

During my holiday in Corfu, a visit to the famous palace of Sissi could not be missed. We had a rental car and luckily there is a free parking lot near the Achillion. Once inside, there is the possibility of an audio tour. This was even available in Dutch! The tour is included in the entrance fee of 8 euros per person, you only need to issue an identity card as a deposit. And a cell phone number. You have one hour to complete the audio tour, then you will be called and asked to return the devices again. The employee explains how the device works (a little too fast, in my opinion) and then the tour can begin. Although it is not very clear WHERE the tour begins. That was just a little search. For the record, the tour starts outside.

Pressing 99 gives you an explanation of how to use the audio tour. So we only came back at the END of the tour.

With each item you will be told something interesting. Not only about Sissi, but also about Emperor Wilhelm II. He has taken on the restoration of the palace. It is completely restored to its former glory. The Achillion owes its name to the brave Achilles. It is a well-known story that he was baptized (in the river Styx, I only looked up, because I didn't know that either) which made him invincible. Only when he was baptized, he was held to his ankles. His only weakness: the Achilles heel. That's how he died in the end, by an arrow in his heel. In the garden is a statue of the dying Achilles, pulling the arrow out of his affected Achilles heel.

Here and there I skipped some things, because that was a bit lengthy and occasionally things were repeated very often; such as about Empress Sissi's favorite poet or that the Empress was broken after the death of her son.
