Advent Is Coming, Are You Ready?

Advent is a period of preparation for the great holiday of Christmas.

This Advent has to bring us closer than ever to the true meaning of Christmas, and we have to pass it on to our children. It only lasts 4 Sundays and we have to take advantage of them very well, If there are those who know how to enjoy Christmas very well, it is the children, so let's help them and accompany them to live this liturgical time.

The Advent Wreath helps us prepare our hearts for the arrival on Christmas Day of Jesus, our Lord.

The Advent Wreath originates from a European tradition that consisted of lighting candles during the winter to represent the fire of the sun god, so that it would return with its light and warmth during the winter. The first missionaries used this tradition to evangelize people. They departed from their customs to teach them the Catholic faith.

The crown is made up of a wide variety of symbols:

The circular shape

The circle has no beginning or end. It is a sign of God's love that is eternal, without beginning and without end, and also of our love for God and neighbor that must never end.

The green branches

Green is the color of hope and life, and God wants us to wait for his grace, the forgiveness of sins and eternal glory at the end of our lives. The most important desire in our lives must be to reach a closer union with God, our Father.

The four candles

It makes us think of the darkness brought about by sin that blinds man and takes him away from God. After the first fall of man, God gradually gave a hope of salvation that illuminated the entire universe like candles, the crown. As darkness dissipates with each candle we light, the centuries were illuminated with Christ's ever closer arrival to our world.

The red decorations represent our love for God and the love of God that surrounds us.

Advent is the preparation time to celebrate Christmas and begins four Sundays before this holiday. It also marks the beginning of the Catholic Liturgical New Year and this 2021 will begin on Sunday, November 28.

Advent comes from the Latin “ad-venio”, which means “to come, to arrive”. It begins on the Sunday closest to the feast of St. Andrew the Apostle (November 30) and lasts four weeks.

Each color has its meaning and corresponds to the feast or liturgical time celebrated that day. Somehow the color and everything that emanates from it, accompany the mystery that is going to occur if you do not have colored candles you can use white candles.
