An old farm

Call me a sentimental hat, but I just shot up. Look what we made!

A year ago we walked in here and found a barn with some mattresses on the floor. It was new, it was a new adventure. Not knowing that we would convert that barn into a place where it is so nice to stay.

A cow that roars, birds that tjielpen, some other animals that make noise, sometimes a barking farm dog; that's all you hear.
No cars rushing by, no industry you hear, no neighbors who have the TV too loud, not all that.
Silence and nature.

I regularly fill up when I walk through The Barn. The work we did, the kids who had to turn in, the sleepless nights because I can't see it anymore... But heaven; it's worth it - more than worth it.

Although there is sometimes talk of child abuse, because we don't have TV, the children don't know about fashion or trends, and the children are dependent on us; I am so proud that my children know what it is like to work with their hands. I am proud that they know that vegetables come from the country, milk from the cow - and that the lady had to have a baby first. I'm proud that they can entertain themselves and entertain each other where they need to. I am proud that I have taught them to read, learn to write and that I am the one to teach them about history. That they do not accept everything indiscriminately, but want to do research themselves.
With topography they have a head start; they know where Hungary is, where you can find Spain, how far the distance is from Spain to Belgium and what a small part it is from Belgium to Germany. They also know that it is an evening, a night and a day's drive to France, from Belgium.
Everything they can pinpoint in detail on the map - and tell about the lovely people they met there.

It's horribly hard work to keep all the balls in the air, but to me, it's all worth it!

I step through De Schuur again and then go to bed quickly; gain strength for tomorrow. Because tomorrow there will be a lot of balls that have to get in the air and stay in the air.
