Dutch rivers, lakes, lakes and ditches are the dirtiest in Europe. As much as 99 percent of the water surface is in poor condition. With that comes biodiversity (All forms of Lifeer there are thousands of different habitats, millions of different species of plants and animals and many billions of different individuals.) at risk and drinking water production is becoming increasingly difficult and expensive. The pollution comes from a large part of the agricultural sector: rivers, lakes, lakes and ditches are full of fertilizers and pesticides.

The water quality crisis is much greater than that of nitrogen. The standstill around water quality in the Netherlands could result in a crisis that is ten times greater than the current nitrogen crisis. The water in the Netherlands is becoming polluted, while clean water is vitally important. Not only is the quality of the great lakes declining, but also that of waters very close by. For example, from the ditches, streams, canals and small puddles in your neighborhood.

In 2022, our citizen survey Vang de Watermonsters showed for the fourth time in a row that Dutch surface waters are not doing well: only 20 percent of the measured waters receive a pass for water quality. Around 80 percent therefore have a moderate to poor quality. Due to the persistently poor water quality, plants and animals in and around the water have no opportunity to recover. It is also becoming increasingly difficult to turn contaminated surface water into affordable and safe tap water.

“According to the polls, our life will last another week and then the peasant republic will begin,” says Marcel van Roosmalen. “Farmers Defence Force will be a legal team and Yvon Jaspers will return as Minister of Economic Affairs, teaching farmers to milk out their existence even more financially.'

Pollution has various causes. Such as manure and pesticides that end up in the water via the ground. Too much of this is now used in our agriculture and horticulture. Dirty sewage also regularly ends up in surface water due to heavy rains. A final major cause of pollution is drug residues that enter our surface water via the sewers, or because they cannot be purified.
