Slugs can be a real scourge for gardeners, but luckily there are animal-friendly ways to keep them out of your garden without killing them. These methods are not only better for the snails, but also for the environment and the biodiversity of your garden.

Why do you have so many snails in your garden?

There are several factors that contribute to a high snail population:

  • Humidity : Snails thrive in humid conditions. If your garden has many shady, humid areas, such as under dense plants or near water sources, this will attract snails.
  • Shelter : Snails look for safe hiding places to hide during the day. Gardens with lots of leaves, mulch, rocks, or other objects provide excellent shelters.
  • Food sources : Snails love soft, succulent plants and vegetables. An abundance of these plants can attract snails and provide them with a steady source of food.
  • Mild winters : In areas with mild winters, snails can remain active and reproduce throughout the year, leading to a larger population.
