Today I went out for a moment and went through a place I visited as a girl guided by my teachers of the school I remembered it beautiful and very cozy, I could not enter was closed and I did not get someone to tell me if it was in operation, however I can not overlook and I want to tell you a little about the history of Museo Archdiocesano Obispo Lasso de la Vega, that today at least its façade is in a state of deterioration.
Tell them that the history of this place dates back to the 18th or 19th century is the oldest house of the Diocesan Seminary of Zulia, located in the city of Maracaibo on Carabobo Street, corner Obispo Lasso. It belonged to Bishop Rafael Lasso de La Vega (n. 1764 — m. 1831), who in 1813 was appointed bishop of Merida in Maracaibo. On October 24, 1990, Father Gustavo Ocando Yamarte founded the Archdiocesan Museum Obispo Lasso de La Vega in these facilities.
An evangelizing institution, here was developed and promoted activities dedicated to the conservation, exhibition and dissemination of collections of the archdiocese of Maracaibo and the churches of Venezuela. I remember that in his museum was the chair where Pope H.S. John Paul Second sat when he visited us in 1985, I also saw paintings, sacred images, pieces of goldsmiths, even for the first time I saw the crown that was made for the image of our Chinita, and a replica of the old main altar of the Cathedral of my city, Maracaibo.
Many memories I keep and today it hurts me to see it in this state. I will pass again I hope it is open to show you more of this story that many appreciate for its architectural and religious spiritual value.
