Parents of young children often ask if their child is ready to start taking guitar lessons. The answer to this question is largely dependent on the child. Some kids will be ready to start guitar lessons at the age of seven, while others may not be ready until they are ten or even older. 

Finger Sensitivity

The biggest physical hurdle young children generally have to overcome when learning guitar is their lack of fine motor skills and hand power. Changing chords on guitar strings requires agile fingers, and many children do not develop the required level of finger sensitivity until they are eight or nine. Of less importance is the overall hand size, there are many half-size guitars available that should be comfortable for even the smallest of hands.
