The Battle of La Victoria took place on February 12, 1814 as part of Venezuela's independence gesture. Patriot General José Félix Ribas and Vicente Campo Elias commanded an army of eight hundred young students and seminarians inexperienced in the war and hundreds of other soldiers, who managed to defeat the more than 2,500 soldiers of the realistic forces of José Tomás Boves.
On February 12, 1814 at 7 am the realist army crosses the Aragua River, Francisco Tomás Morales divided his troops into three columns to enter the city of La Victoria along the road to San Mateo, Calvary and El Pantanero, in order to surprise the patriots. However, José Felix Ribas's small army managed to repel them. The numerical supremacy of the realists managed to reduce the troop of young people and corner the patriots in the middle of the Plaza Mayor, until at 5 o'clock in the afternoon the cavalry of 200 horsemen commanded by Vicente Campo Elias breaks down the rear and attacks the realists. A contingent of Colonel Mariano Montilla comes to his aid and counterattack, which pushes Morales back, which allowed Ribas to give his cry ¡Viva la republic!
