Beautiful Abbey in the Pyrenees

The Abbey of Saint Martin du Canigou in the South of France...
... definitely belongs in my list of beautiful places I've been to. And that's why I thought it was definitely worth sharing.
I wonder which one of you was there.
The Abbey of Saint Martin du Canigou is located in the heart of the Canigou massif on a 1,094 metres high cliff over the valley of Cady.
The abbey can be reached via a walking route from the town of Casteil. There are also jeeps heading towards the abbey but if you can do it then a walk there is definitely worth it. The surroundings are beautiful. The hike to the abbey is a climb of about an hour.
In the abbey you get a tour by a guide.
Everything exudes a special atmosphere and the abbey is in an oasis of peace. Completely secluded and in a beautiful piece of nature. On me it impressed, I thought it was great. After visiting the abbey, don't forget to take the stairs to the viewpoint, worth it!
- The abbey was built in the year 1005 AD
- From 1009 AD the abbey was inhabited by Benedictine monks.
In 1428, the abbey was severely damaged by an earthquake. The Monks left the abbey.
- It was only in 1902 that the abbey was completely restored.
- The Abbey of Saint-Martin du Canigou is now inhabited by the community Les Béatitudes and opened to the public.
Below are some pictures of our visit. I enjoy myself a bit more delicious after...
