Hello Friend - a good friend, this time I'll tell you the beauty of nature on the island of Flores. As you read in the previous article that Sumba Island is one of the most important islands in NTT, well besides sumba there are many places in Flores as well that are no less beautiful. 😊
First - I'll introduce Flores Island to you.
Flores, from Portuguese meaning “bunga” is an island that is in the administrative region of East Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia. The name Flores is derived from the Portuguese “cabo de flores “meaning “Cape of flowers”. The name was originally given by S. M. Cabot to call the region east of the island Flores. Finally in wear officially since 1636 by the governor general of the Dutch East Indies Hendrik Brouwer. A fairly in-depth study by Orinbao (1969) revealed that the real real name of Flores island is Nusa Nipa (snake island) which from an anthropological angle, the term is more useful because it contains various philosophical, Cultural, and Ritual Traditions meanings of Flores society.
Flores belongs to the cluster of Little Sunda Islands along with Bali and NTB, with an area of about 14,300 km². The population in Flores, in 2007, reached 1.6 million inhabitants. The highest peak is Mount Ranaka (2350m) which is the second highest mountain in East Nusa Tenggara, after Mount Mutis, 2427m in West Timor.
Flores Island along with Timor Island, Sumba Island and Alor Islands are four major islands in NTT Province which are one of Indonesia's archipelago provinces with 566 islands. Flores, with the area, the number of inhabitants and resources of both nature and people who are judged to be quite adequate, is now preparing to become a province in the NTT.
At the western and eastern ends of Flores Island there are several small island clusters. To the east there are clusters of Lembata Island, Adonara and Solor, while to the west there are clusters of Komodo and Rinca Island.
West of the island of Flores, after the cluster of small islands, there is the island of Sumbawa (NTB), while to the east after the cluster of small islands, there is the Alor archipelago. To the southeast is the island of Timor. To the southwest is the island of Sumba, to the south is the sea of Sawu, to the north, across the Flores Sea is Sulawesi.
Well that's him island Flores guys. Yuk consider the following natural beauty that is on the island of Flores!1. Cunca wulang waterfallIf America has the Grand Canyon, flores have Green Canyon yeah guys.
Hidden in the wilds of tropical forests, the waterfall flows through narrow cliffs, just like the Colorado River with its sobered Grand Canyon.
Okay, indeed it's “mini” size and not worth calling the “Grand Canyon”. But because of the greenness of the forest around it, we just replace it with the designation “Green Canyon”. How?
And there's nothing more engrossing than jumping into a quiet, clear pool beneath the cliffs of these rocks. As you swim, you can take a peek at the splendor of the falls behind the cliffs. But before jumping, discuss first with your guide yes, because it can be that when the water is being shallow, especially in the dry season.
You don't want to swim? It doesn't matter as long as it still wants to take a selfie. There's a suspension bridge that offers views as well as being a cool swafoto spot.2. Mules IslandMules Island is derived from the local language meaning Gorgeous. Uniquely, from far away the shape of the island does resemble a princess who is asleep because of her exotic hills.
Indeed, the island, which is slightly more spacious than Bandung City has a jelita nature. A stretch of rock hills, grasslands filled with farm animals, as well as tropical forests inhabited by herds of apes you can find here.
The sea is also no less beautiful. The clarity of seawater is as if tempting you to explore the waters around the island. And the waters here are filled with turtles, dolphins, and other kinds of fish.
Oh yes, the island also has a lighthouse located about 30 minutes from Kampung Konggang.3. Goa Rangko Swimming PoolWhile you've already tasted the taste of swimming in many places, this place is guaranteed to provide a new experience.
Goa Rangko located near Labuan Bajo is a 4-metre-deep goa decorated stalagtites and stalagmites of various shapes and sizes.
But what has certainly been most sought-after is a natural pool with its cool, clear water. Since it is located near the beach, its pool water also contains salts that are said to nourish the body.
Unique isn't it? Where else can you swim inside goa berstalagmit?
Still looking for something cool here? How about the charm when the solemn peeks through the slit of the goa door and makes the water shimmering. Two words to paint it: incredible!4. Sawah Nets Profit - Cancar village profitYou may have visited Ubud and posed against a backdrop of charmingly arranged green rice fields on the mountain slopes.
How about trying another background in Flores? Try layover to Cuncar Village for a peek at the lush, green giant “cobwebs.”
Yes. When viewed from above, the paddy area of this village does look like a spider's web (or pizza?).
But the reason behind this unusual division of rice fields is because the land was owned by an entire community. They then gave a share of land to each family according to their social status and number of family members. Hmm.. maybe the term many kids many rejeki does fit here!5. Cunca Lega FallsAmong the greens and the swells of Flores forest stand a magnificently two-storey “building” that is mesmerising. That's the Cunca Lega Falls also known by the designation of Tengkulese Falls.
The beauty of this multi-storey waterfall about 25 metres high is incredible. Especially accompanied by a background of brown rocks and natural hoardings.
The splendour of this waterfall is evident from it. Plus befriend a beautiful expanse of citizen paddy in the distance. Well, for those who want to climb to the peak, it is advisable to come in the dry season when the water discharge is not too torrential.
Relax, the sighting of this waterfall from below is no less dashful. Aalagi there is a natural pool at the bottom of the falls ready to accompany anyone who wants to swim.
So, there is no need to worry because at the base of this waterfall is also no less exciting.6. Tengku Shiva waterfallThe waterfall is indeed a giant painting tub on the canvas of a towering high stone wall. Its waterfall gives a white, medium lichen plants scribble green on that “canvas”.
No levees, there are four 70-metre-high waterfalls adorning this giant “canvas.” These four waterfalls also have similar water discharge.
The boulders in front of the waterfall are the best swafoto points to pose with this magnificent nature painting. Moreover, these stones are also decorated with water-waterfall mini-versions that are no less beautiful.
The journey to achieve this “giant painting” is indeed quite difficult. Yet on achieving this beautiful and magnificent masterpiece of nature maestro, you are guaranteed to fall for heart. Can't believe it?7. Goa Liang BuaHow does the original “hobbit” house form? If your shadows are like small and cute houses with various flowers on the pages you often display on Instagram, so regret it should be said that you are wrong!
The home of the original “hobbits” — which they really lived in can be found on Flores Island!
Here's Goa Liang Bua. In 2003, scientists discovered a skeleton from a dwarf-sized human later named Homo Floresiensis.
This human skeleton is believed to have a height of only about 106cm weighing about 30 to 40kg and became extinct about 50,000 years ago.
And this goa is what is where they live! The original “hobbit” house!
Also take a visit to its museum to see the original hobbit human skeletons and if you're interested, you can visit a village believed to live in by direct descendants of these hobbits! Interested in meeting them?8. Todo KampungIt is said that Kampung Todo was founded by a king from Sumatra named Mashur. And from then on this place became the center of government from the Manggarai Kingdom.
Although no longer, but today we can still take a peek at the remnants of its relics as well as the lives of its citizens that are still the same as many centuries ago.
In the central part is Watu Todo, a rock believed to be the keeper of the village with a beautiful circle shaped formation. Around it stands a conical custom house building called Niang Todo:
Want to find a keepsake? You can shop for Todo's signature songket which costs between Rp50,000 to Rp500,000. This songket is guaranteed you won't find in a big city mall though!
Do not forget about the fresh air and beautiful green mountains surrounding this village!9. Kampung Wae ReboIf many people willingly trekking for 4 — 5 hours just to reach a remote village in the mountains, it is certain that this village is not an ordinary village.
The village was named Wae Rebo, a traditional village filled with custom houses resembling giant party hats.
And amazingly, this thatched house has five floors! The first floor is used as a residence, the second to fourth floors are barns, while the top floor is a place of praying to ancestors.
The green of nature and the cool air at an altitude of 1,200 meters above sea level are also in return for your “sacrifice” to reach this village.
Another charm from Wae Rebo was in space. Here dozens of stars can be clearly visible in the sky with the naked eye!
It's a trip here is draining, but you want to sacrifice a little sleep time for the sake of being able to date with the virgin sky here?
Well how?? Don't tell me you guys aren't interested in the natural beauty of this flores island guys. Because your mind is saturated because of the Corona pandemic needs a picnic, right.? 😊 #indonesia
