Radiohead is one of the most celebrated alternative rock groups of the last two decades, wowing critics while retaining a large following around the world despite their urge to produce challenging, forward-thinking music. When the British band started in the 90s, it looked like a traditional modern rock group, but in subsequent years the quintet has slowly moved away from conventional guitar-and-drum-based music to explore experimental structures and tones. They may not be the most popular group in rock, but they are certainly one of the most respected.

Radiohead

Radiohead came together when the band members had all attended the same school in Abingdon, England in the mid-80s. The individual members went to college but kept in touch and eventually reunited in the early nineties to focus on music in the early nineties. 1991 proved to be the critical early year in their budding career, within the 12-month period, Radiohead found management and then signed with EMI Records. Radiohead released their debut, Pablo Honey, in 1993. Much more of a product of his time, Pablo Honey reflected Nirvana's snapped guitar energy, and the album hit single, β€œCreep”, was a dynamic albeit known soft-than-loud blast of adolescent anxiety. At the same time, Pablo Honey showed the band's interest in moody modern rock and emphasized the beautiful falsetto of frontman Thom Yorke. But because so much attention was focused on the success of 'Creep', there were suspicions that Radiohead was just another single-hit grunge group.
