Black Cat Day 17 August

Every August 17th is Black Cat Day. A special day, to protect black cats and pamper them extra.

A long time ago people thought that a black cat would bring bad luck, it would have to do with witchcraft and evil forces.

  • In the Middle Ages, witches were thought to turn black cats at night and kidnap children. So black cats were killed then, and so were the witches they thought might be witches.
  • In Japan, there is an ancient legend about a black vampire cat who would have killed an upcoming princess.
  • The Egyptians thought there were evil forces in black cats.
