Powerful photos without color
Black and white photos can also be very powerful and beautiful. We are used to looking at color and will also quickly choose to capture those colors with photos. Yet black and white photos can be extra powerful in a different way. Also, photos that you don't like in colour can be a top perch in black and white.
Color photograph
Many cameras have black and white. However, I advise you to shoot in colour at first. Otherwise, you'll lose a lot of digital information from the photo. If you change the photo from color to Black - white afterwards, many more black and white tones are retained. Yet I also recommend the complete opposite.

Of course, that's totally against my previous tip. And yet I can very well imagine that you choose to use the black and white mode of the camera. You can see the contrasts and structures very well on the liveview. So the effects will become apparent quickly.
If you find it hard to 'think' in black and white, this is a really good option.
Look for contrasts and structures
In color photos, too much contrast is often disturbing. Of course, that is a matter of taste, but in general, too high contrast is not liked. With a black and white photo, high contrasts are allowed, they give power to your black and white photo.
