A killer whale has eaten one of the trainers.! A disturbing phone call will be received at the emergency office on 24 February 2010 SeaWorld in Orlando. Something went wrong in the American theme park. And it wasn't a one-time incident, encumbering all sorts of former trainers in Blackfish (83 min.). This was now typically a case of an accident that was about to happen. The question was: when?

A little twenty years earlier, there has been an incident with Tilikum , the massive whale that had gone to the attack. Together with two other killer whales, he would have pulled a trainster underwater. She drowned in front of a shocked audience. The image of the killer whale as a social and intelligent animal, which, moreover, would never have attacked a human being in the wild, remained completely intact.
During the grand set -up SeaWorld shows in Florida, Tilikum was unabated as a top attraction. Behind the scenes, however, it was long known that the animal could be incalculable and even dangerous. Director Gabriela Cowperthwaite let various former employees speak about that. They also outline the back of his behaviour: the way the animals are drilled, with severe penalties and compulsory isolation.
Cowperthwaite illustrates this with terrifying images of previous incidents involving other orcas, carefully kept under the cap by the theme parks. As a contrast, she shows the super slick commercials of SeaWorld herself, in which the killer whales' alludes Disney-like toughness. Ideal family entertainment. Before one gets annoyed. Then it will be Jaws in a slightly too small pool.
This handsome 2013 film will be both an exciting real life thriller and a convincing plea against the use of caged wild animals for slick entertainment.
