Double show coming soon: blood moon and supermoon of flowers

At the end of this month, the first total lunar eclipse of the year, baptized “blood moon”, will coincide with the largest supermoon of 2021. Both events will take place on the same day but cannot be observed from all parts of the world.
A total lunar eclipse will occur on May 26, 2021, being the first of the two lunar eclipses of 2021 and being the only total moon eclipse of 2021. The next will be on November 19, 2021 being partial eclipse.

The supermoon is an astronomical phenomenon that takes place when our satellite is in full phase and also passes through the point of its orbit closest to Earth, a fact that is known as perigee. In such cases, the moon can be seen 14% larger and up to 30% brighter than usual.

The May supermoon will be even more special because its proximity to Earth will be the least throughout the year, exactly 357,311 kilometers.

The term “moon of flowers”, according to NASA, is native to the first native American tribes of farmers; so they designated it as the time of year when spring flowers appeared in abundance. In addition to “flower moon”, the April full moon is also known as “mother's moon”, “moon of the lecha” or “moon of corn planting”.
