It #staatsbos was built between 1930 and 1940 on poor land by the unemployed from the west of the Netherlands. It grows not only spruce, Japanese larch, douglas spruce, Corsican and Austrian pine trees, but also oak beech and birch. A small part of the area consists of heaths and ponds and lakes created by venification.
In the twenty-first century, the forest was replanted with deciduous trees more varied and natural. Many wild animals are found in the area, such as deer, badgers, squirrels, ransules and vipers.
