From ambitious adolescent to driven entrepreneur. I met Boyan Slat when he was a teenager and sat at the table at RTL Late Night, which was then presented by Humberto Tan. Boyan told him he wanted to figure out a way to clean up all the floating plastic using the natural currents of the oceans. He wrote a paper about this subject. Boyan came up with this idea during a holiday in Greece. He went diving, but he came across more plastic than fish. His project even won him a prize at the TU in Delft in 2012.

Who is Boyan?

Boyan Slat was born on 27 July 1994, in Delft. As a VWO scholar at the Grotius College in Delft, he worked on a school project that ultimately led to the Ocean Cleanup. Boyan started a study on Aerospace Engineering in 2012, but eventually stopped studying. Meanwhile, he continued to improve his project to help the world to get rid of the plastic soup. At the end of March 2013 he gave a speech about his project at TEDx . His speech went viral. Currently, at the age of 24, Boyan Slat has eighty employees.
