Brocante! People, we love it. And that is not so strange because brocante is also very nice. Brocante stands for curiosities, used and old BUT not old enough to be called antiques. Today, there are many brands that respond to our need to surround us with the atmosphere of yesteryear. So you can buy new stuff that looks old. Nothing wrong with that, but I don't like to think to make something that fits perfectly in a brocante setting. I love to wander around flea markets and thrift shops looking for the one thing I didn't know I was looking for. But sometimes it's not old at all, but I find inspiration to do something fun with it taking into account the style I want to use it for. I want to give you some examples that are easy to make and that fit perfectly into a brocante setting without leaving an echo in your purse.

How easy can it be! I dipped an old crocheted dress in sugar water and let it dry well flat. Then I worked it with white paint to make it a little brighter. You can also use starch that you just buy in the store, but I wanted to try out that old-fashioned sugar water.

You can make sugar water very easy by dissolving sugar in water. Usually people insist 1 cup of sugar on 1 cup of water. Depending on the size of your dress or ribbon, you can adjust this. Boil the water, dissolve the sugar in it (stirring or not, but that depends on how patient you are), let the water cool down and dip your rug in it. Make sure you have a piece of plastic ready on a hard surface (if you really want it tight and straight) and then wait until the rug is dry.

You can also do this with other forms of course.

It hangs in a hall that is quite dark and did not have such a cozy look when you enter. It had to get a bit of an old-fashioned friendly brocante atmosphere and this “wall dress” fits that perfectly.
