Bummelus vs you have a blue heart for everything or you don't have it....
This afternoon I discovered you. You sit, crawl or lie next to my inflatable pool. Your yellow-black colors, resembling an operational police uniform, immediately attract my attention. Even though I am retired, I still have a blue heart and it is written in my bloodstream, “to help those who need it”.
I can't communicate with you. But your body language speaks volumes. Hunger knock like a cyclist who has been moving for miles in the deep red and has finally fallen from exhaustion of his bike, just not into the ravine. But almost rip in the fauna world, but neg not quite.
I'll wake you up from your bumblebee coma with my leaf blower. Finally, the terrace needs to be cleaned. I slalom around you and make sure you don't get into the maelstrom of compressed exhaled mechanical air to swallow it.
Meanwhile, I think you're pathetic and have to deal with you.. I suddenly get a fantasy in my head of someone with the greatest possible conceivable thirst in a desert on the way to an oasis that turns out to be an agonising fata Morgane. And so again no view of cooling and absorbable liquids. Only and only drought under a scorching unbearable heat. You can't function anymore, your organs are threatening to stop and mummification lurks.
Then I suddenly realize that in such cases sugar water could help to get body and limbs back on track. I place my wake up call with my own life coach who delivers the requested superfluids on a saucer.
Bumblebee that's what I call you from now on, sweet bee like, I place on the saucer. With your funnel mouth, you immediately start sucking up your emergency ration in optima forma. You look like an anteater (see video) and evenly you siphon all these goodies inside.
The water-sugar solution is apparently a panacea because after a short time you climb off the saucer and relax. Because enough drunk is enough. I'll put you on the saucer again, because there's still a lot left. You refuse and show me that you are grateful. You climb over my hands, gently and tenderly. You seem grateful for this gesture. I pat you with my index finger over your back, which you seem to like. You do not scare and undergo my touch with confidence and let this happen calmly.
Bumblebee I am sincerely happy for you. I'll put you in the luwte in the shadow side under a real flora umbrella. The birds around chirping to their young in the nests or remote control. With your two front paws you start practicing Bummelus, over your head down again and again. You lift your body. After a short power Nap I see you flew out like a young nesting bird. Looking for even more honey and pollinations.
I read that you can pollinate much faster than your relative the bee could ever.
Powerhouse, I wish you all the best. If you get exhausted again, come and visit our garden.
I now know what to look for. Especially your yellow-black contours and powerful body I will remember pertinently

Davy Luyten, Business Development Director at Biobest, reveals 5 important and amazing facts about the bumblebee you probably didn't know yet.
1. Bumblebees can pollinate even more effectively than honey bees.
'That's right! Especially in colder climates, bumblebees are more effective than honey bees, because honeybees need warmer temperatures to fly. Bumblebees are more resistant to colder temperatures and, moreover, they are more friendly to people. That makes them the ideal partners for horticulture. Although the honeybee is the most known bee, the bumblebee is the real star!'
2. How to find bumblebees their nest?
'Bumblebees are excellent Boy Scouts: they always find their nest. To navigate in their surroundings, they are guided mainly by using visual landmarks. When a bumblebee leaves the nest, it stays close at first, to get a clear picture of the environment. Then the bumblebee moves gradually further and further away from the nest, up to five kilometers away! In addition to landmarks, light polarity also plays an important role. Some scientists even claim that bumblebees use an internal magnetic compass to find their way home. But these visual landmarks also have a drawback: if you moved their nest far enough, they wouldn't recognize it anymore and they'd get lost.'
How to communicate bumble?
“It is common knowledge that honeybees use a special dance to communicate with each other. They do so to pass on the location of flowers or other food sources nearby. Bumblebees on the other hand. Instead, they use the vibrations of their wings and chemical signals (such as pheromones) to communicate with each other. But they never communicate about the location of flowers, and instead they themselves go in search of food. That's another reason why bumblebees are so popular for pollination: if one finds a nice food spot on the edge of the crop, the others don't automatically follow to the same spot, as honey bees would..'
What would a world without bumblebees look like?
'People often think that in a world without bumblebees or bees there would be no more flowers, fruit or vegetables. That's not quite right. There are also other insects that can pollinate crops — and not all fruits and vegetables really need pollination to carry fruit — but not only are these insects much less efficient, the crops are also much smaller and contain less taste. Prices in the supermarket would be stepping up and the available variety of fruits and vegetables would seriously decrease. That's why bumblebees are definitely an important factor in preserving our ecosystem.'
Why are bumblebees so woolly?
'Bumblebees are one of the most woolly bees that exist. And that has a very practical explanation: when they pollinate flowers, they shake their fly muscles strongly back and forth to release the pollen from the flowers. This heavy shaking also produces a lot of heat. That heat use bumblebees to warm themselves and their nest. The long hairs keep them warm inside. This is also why they can fly out so early in spring, while bees (with less hair) have to wait until it gets warmer.'
