Caja Seca Municipality Sucre State Zulia. It is a small town located south of Lake Maracaibo. And it is the entrance to the only seaside resorts on Lake Maracaibo and the ports of Palmarito, Bobures and Gibraltar, which are the main tourist hub. Ports with a lot of Venezuelan history. Like that of Gibraltar, which was the first capital of the State of Zulia due to its great importance.
Caja Seca connects many other towns in the area, because it is located at a strategic point that has allowed it to become one of the most important centers of agro-industrial activity in the west of the country.
Being uba one of the youngest cities in the country, it was declared a city in 2003 when it reached 44,000 inhabitants, this being one of the most recent growing cities in Venezuela.
Caja Seca is connected by the Panamerican highway, which is the most important in all of Venezuela. As well as 2 regional roads that are the Antonio José de Sucre Road Corridor that allow us to reach the most important spas of Lake Maracaibo and the Via a Las Virtudes road that in a short time takes us to the Venezuelan Andes mountain range.
It was founded in 1938 as a small farmhouse with only about 300 inhabitants, while the construction of the Pan-American Highway along the south of the lake began and it was there that part of its history began.
On some websites we can find that it was named Caja Seca by its own inhabitants years after the CAAV managed to move the route of the Torondoy river at its convenience, because of this its inhabitants began to call the area surrounding that empty space “LA CAJA SECA”, which means that this name served as a point of reference for inhabitants of surrounding areas.
But not so historians and important figures who were part of this process of founding the city tell the true story.
When Central Venezuela was built the largest sugar bowl in Venezuela that is located in a town of Caja Seca. The engineers in charge of the area even though they had not built the pan-american highway when they were using their radios to communicate to the sugar mill the meeting place and reference point was a kind of box used in ancient times to feed animals such as donkeys and donkeys horses. And that it was always kept dry because it had been abandoned. So when they communicate they said we are in the dry box from there comes their name. I had the privilege of meeting some of the elders who were part of this process in their youth.
Proud to be from my beloved Caja Seca a place full of natural wonders. With rivers, beaches, hot springs, mountains. I was born and raised in a wonderful place where great athletes of the stature of the big baseball olympics have won in the major leagues in the United States, historical figures who won international awards such as those of Unesco.
A wonderful town that, due to its great boom, became a city.
