Last week I had the pleasure to visit Castle De Cannenburgh (a 16th century castle in Vaassen). I haven't been inside, but the herb garden and the adjacent park was also more than worthwhile.

In 1543, the Gelderland field marshal Marten van Rossem built a stately castle on the remains of a medieval castle. The flowering period falls in the middle of the XVIII century. At that time, the Cannenburch was expanded with two identical construction houses on either side of the forecourt. From 1881, the estate fell into disrepair. In 1951 Stichting Vrienden der Geldersche Castleen buys the building for a symbolic amount and opens it to the public. The Cannenburch is now one of the most beautiful combinations of castle and park in Gelderland.
