The Caracas metro celebrated 38 years of inauguration on January 2, 2021. This being the largest modern infrastructure work carried out in the city. Also attached some photographs of me in the Caracas metro some time ago.
It was inaugurated on January 2, 1983 with 6.7 km. Its purpose is to contribute to the development of collective transport in Caracas, through the planning, construction and commercial operation of an integrated transport system.
It consists of a Metropolitan Railway System (Metro), a Surface Transport System (Metrobus), a Cable Car System (Metrocable), an automatic mobilizer of people (Cabletrén) and a rapid transit bus network (Buscaracas).
After the inauguration of the system on 2 January 1983, over the years there has been a progressive growth of the metro system in the twentieth century, the inauguration of all stages of lines 1 and 2, then the first stage of line 3 was inaugurated. Along with this, the Metrobus system has been inaugurated, initially operating as an auxiliary system during the construction of line 2, the Metrobus system; a system of buses that depart from the stations and complement the service allowing to reach sectors where the metro does not have direct coverage. This binomial is known as the Metro-Metrobus System.
• On 30 July 2007, after 24 years without a single accident, a collision occurred that claimed the life of 1 person and injured 11 others. I was on Line 1 at Plaza Sucre station at 9:09 a.m. when a train heading towards Propatria stopped on the platform. He was beaten from behind by another traveling in the same direction. Although there has been much speculation about the cause of the accident, it is clear that there was a defect in the emergency braking system; the operational control center at La Hoyada station never activated the automatic braking mechanism when a train approaches a second train.
• During the 2017 protests, it was common for the government to shut down Metro stations. Twelve metro stations were closed on April 4; on April 8, 16 metro stations and 19 Caracas Metrobús routes were closed.
• On April 13, 27 stations were closed, and on April 26, the Metro closed completely after being open for two hours, along with the suspension of Metrobús and Bus Caracas services.
• On February 14, 2018, Metro users had to cross metro tunnels after a power failure.
• In July 2018, the Metro stopped issuing tickets because they ran out of paper to print tickets.
• In March 2019, the meter was out of service for several days due to a power outage caused by the country's poor political and economic situation at the Simón Bolívar Hydroelectric Power Plant.
• On August 17, 2019, the Caracas Metro derailed between Los Dos Caminos and Miranda stations, leaving 8 injured, being forced to temporarily close the stretch between Chacaito and Palo Verde stations
• On December 10, 2020, a Line 2 train was derailed between Mamera and Caricuao, leaving an injured person.
