Looking for information about the hospital situation in Venezuela I came across the history of the central hospital of Maracaibo as it is popularly known, and to me amazed I found this and decided to share it with my friends of yoors.

On one side of the Hermitage of Santa Ana is the main building of Hospital Central Dr. Urquinaone, being the first hospital in Venezuela. One of the marble plates placed on the front wall of the hospital says 1608 - 1997 To the memory of Don Francisco and Doña Inés Ortiz del Basto, founders of Santa Ana Hospital on July 26, 1608, current Dr Central Hospital. Urquinaone. Venezuela's oldest health institution, unequivocal precursor of the country's social security. “It is extremely useful that from time to time we recall the facts that have happened, that the traits of the great men who have preceded us be brought to light again and made manifest to the new generations”. Dr. Adolfo D'Empaire. On March 23, 1774, the traveling bishop, Mariano Martí, visits the hospital. In 1786 Bishop Lora ordered new enlargements. In 1800 he changed his name to Hospital de la Caridad. On October 7, 1856 was reinaugurated by Governor Roque Rebolledo with a capacity of 10 beds. The Dr. Antonio José Urquinaone Bracho, quien había nacido en La Cañada en 1823 obtiene el título de Doctor en Derecho Civil en 1854 funda en 1860 el asilo de mendigos que se llamó Casa de La Beneficiencia, la cual en 1866 es trasladada al Hospital de La Caridad. In 1872 Dr died in Cucuta. Urquinaone. There were new remodeling of the facades in 1910 and 1927 with which it acquires the current appearance. In 1944 the name was changed to Hospital Central Dr. Urquinaone. By 1945 its capacity was already 280 beds.
On the wall near the corner that is on Calle 95 (Venezuela) there is a marble plaque with a relief from the doctor, but better known as poet, Ildefonso Vasquez (1840-1920). This plaque contains the sonnet “El Rayo de Luz” which was written by Vasquez, after knowing the English's allegation before the Paris Arbitral Tribunal to rule in favor of them in the case of Guyana Esequiva's claim, they said that Venezuela had semibarbaras customs and that it lacked qualities to civilize the Guyana, the sonnet says
