We keep more than 100 million chickens imprisoned here in this small country. Mainly exports. Nowhere else in the world do there live so many chickens per square kilometer. But fewer? That is, of course, unnegotiable. Of those 100 million chickens, 5 million animals have already been killed this year to save the Dutch chicken industry and migratory birds are blamed.

Avian flu? Yes. Because we are in the middle of the biggest European outbreak ever. That while the bird flu season is yet to begin. Experts and poultry farmers hold their hearts for the winter. What's going on? Why are all these animals being killed? And can this grow into a new pandemic?
