Not every parent has enough money to give his baby everything. And there are parents, like me, who don't want to spoil their child too much. Because I save a lot of money, we often have some money left for presents. Only these will never be very expensive gifts. It's nice to give your child a new bike, but is this also necessary? How often is the child going to drop the bike? How often does the child fall? The bike will soon not look like new. Personally, I find it a shame to buy a new bike for a small child.
That's why we always buy 2nd hand bikes, steppes and other outdoor toys. When toys are on offer, I buy some new things, but not very much.
I am therefore very much in favour of teaching children early on that money does not come out of the wall by means of a card. That realization came when my child was 4 years old and saw a very nice new Frozen bike that she wanted. Mom had to use “the pass.” Some sort of tirade followed by the word “no.” I bought some booklets to teach your kid that money doesn't just come out of that card.
One of the favourite books here, especially against the Sinterklaas, are:Pom-Ti-Dom
It's about a little princess who has everything and nothing is enough. The booklet is written by Kim van Kooten & Noelle Smit. It teaches children that there are also people who do not have mountains of toys. In the end, Pom-Ti-Dom gives everything away and realizes how good she is.
Saint Nicholas and the empty barrels - Written for Ivo Niehe
This is a typical Sinterklaas story about Saint Nicholas who has to cut back due to the crisis. The piets have to sell all his stuff, cancel his barbers appointments because there's not enough money.
The illustrations are made very nice and the colors are very cheerful.
The booklets I bought are through flea markets, but children under 16 or 18 years old (depending on where you live) can join the nearby library free of charge. Reading or reading is not only fun, but also educational.
