While I was taking my daily reading hour in the magazine La Aventura de la Historia edition 150, which contains more than 100 pages full of great historical events. That's why I decided to give a short account of the war against Gaddafi.
It was an international war conflict in Libyan territory that began in February 2011. It confronted the Libyan government of Muamar el Gaddafi against different opposition groups organized in the so-called National Transitional Council supported by different foreign countries, mainly France and NATO countries, and had as its historical context the so-called Arab Spring.
The conflict began through demonstrations and popular protests against the government of Muamar el Gaddafi, shortly after the conflicts that had occurred in neighboring Tunisia. Armed revolt groups came to take control of some cities causing the Libyan government, called 'yamahiriya', to lose control over important areas of the country resulting in an armed confrontation. The response, which was given by 'yamahiriya', was described by some countries as an attack on civil rights and the security of civilians.
These countries, mainly belonging to NATO and led by France, on the basis of a United Nations resolution, decided to carry out an intervention that they described as humanitarian intervention. On October 31, 2011, the UN Security Council unanimously decided to annul the resolution that had allowed intervention due to the rebel victory.
In the first four months of civil war, according to the head of a delegation of the UN Human Rights Council, between ten and fifteen thousand deaths occurred on both sides, with cases of sexual violence and war crimes committed mainly, according to government sources supporting the opponents, by forces loyal to Gaddafi.
The war ended with the defeat of Muamar Qaddafi supporters, their death, and total control of the country by the rebels of the National Transitional Council. In August 2012, the National Transitional Council was dissolved, starting the democratic transition with the General Congress of the Nation and the founding of the Libyan Republic. In 2014, a new conflict broke out, leaving the country divided into different areas of influence and plunged into violence in which jihadist groups have increasing relevance.
