#history Cleopatra VII (who lived around 69-30 BCE and reigned around 51-30 BCE) was the last ruler of Egypt before it was annexed as a province of Rome. Although she is probably the best-known Egyptian queen, in fact Cleopatra was Greek and was a member of the Ptolemaic dynasty (323-30 BCE) that ruled Egypt after the death of Alexander the Great (356-323 BCE). Cleopatra is probably best known for her love affair with Roman general and statesman Mark Antony (83-30 BCE) in addition to her previous love affair with Julius Caesar (100-44 BCE); however, she was a powerful queen before interacting with either of them and a much stronger monarch than anyone else in the dynasty Late Ptolemaic.
