Research shows that drinking 3 to 4 cups of coffee a day may help reduce a person's risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
In a large 2013 study, people who increased the amount of coffee they drank by more than 1 cup a day over a 4-year period had an 11 percent lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes than those who did not change their coffee consumption.
The study also found that people who decreased their coffee consumption by more than 1 cup a day were 17 percent more likely to develop type 2 diabetes.
Accumulated evidence strongly suggests that drinking coffee can help protect against this condition.
