The report of the Groninger Gaswinning Committee of Inquiry causes more bewilderment than even the most cynical observer expected. The administrative Netherlands — top officials and ministers — have all made the earthquake victims fall into the crap. A milder term does not do justice to this reality. Science has not shown its best side either. Of course, the oil companies pursued their own interests and always found a willing ear on the part of the government. The prime minister watched, smiling, until it was far, far too late. Now that he is finally aware of the seriousness of the situation, he is still not part of the solution but part of the problem. You would almost think that over the past ten years, it has been a policy to make the people of Groningen as crazy as possible so that they would eventually throw in the towel.

The cabinet and the Dutch Natural Gas Company (NAM) have “structurally ignored the interests of people from Groningen and systematically underestimated their problems”. Both have “an honorary debt” to pay to people from Groningen. These are some of the conclusions in a devastating final report by the parliamentary committee of inquiry.

In addition, the committee leaves little of the role that Prime Minister Mark Rutte played.

I did not think it was possible that some close stakeholders had not read the report yet, at least until the meeting. But who am I.
