Managing oneself
The pandemic brutally disrupted the physical workplaces and transformed how people engage with their organization, each other, customers and the work itself. Leaders have to evolve considering the rapid change in external contexts. What may have worked for us in “normal” times may suddenly feel inadequate. The ‘future of work’ we have seen in movies has announced its arrival and it feels like starring in a Jetsons episode.
Drucker’s insights in his work “Managing Oneself” are more relevant then ever and come in handy for those who are struggling to position themselves effectively. What are my strengths? What are my values? Where do I belong? What should my contribution be? Questions to ask yourself while evaluating your position.
Lesson learned from Druckers: don’t try to change yourself. Instead concentrate on identifying your most valuable strengths ánd most dangerous weaknesses; Articulate how you learn and work with others and what your values are; and describe the type of work environment where you can make the greatest contribution. Only when you operate with a combination of your strengths and self-knowledge can you achieve true and lasting excellence.
