The village de Wijk (Drents: de Wiek) is located in the Dutch #provincie #Drenthe , municipality of De #Wolden . The article in the place name is written with a lowercase letter.
The Wijk originated in the Middle Ages, when farmers settled on the dry places in the peat marshes along the Reest. In 1325 the monastery of Ruinen was moved to Dickninge and this had a major influence on the development of the village. The Havixhorst and Dunningen have also been of interest in this respect. In 1672, hostile plundering troops destroyed everything around the Havixhorst and the monastery church of Dickninge was demolished. Also, the Dickninger mill went up in flames. Until 1750, Kerspel De Wijk grew through mining, and the cattle herd grew with it. In 1811, in the French era, a reclassification was introduced and the municipality of De Wijk was formed, which also included Koekange, Oshaar, the Schiphorst and the Pile. Especially after the Second World War, the village was greatly expanded due to new construction.

On 1 January 1998, the municipality of De Wijk merged into the new municipality De Wolden. Then the municipalities Schiphorst and Rogat moved to the neighbouring municipality of Meppel.
