Cows are not milking machines, but intelligent, emotional animals with their own personality, character and ability to experience different emotions. For example, they can feel satisfied, happy or calm, social, playful or curious, but they can also feel uncomfortable, bored, scared, frustrated, stressed or annoyed.

In addition to the diversity of emotions, cows also have extensive cognitive ability. They learn fast and have a very good long term memory. They recognize the other cows from the herd, but people who have ever treated them badly will recognize them. Cows love to play with each other, love to be together. There is a clear hierarchy in the herd, each cow has its own place in the group. They also learn from each other. Cows can also be very sad, even depressed and experience stress, especially when their calf is taken away, something that is standard in the dairy industry.
