José Doráncel Vargas Gómez (Caño Zancudo, May 14, 1957), better known as Dorángel and "El Comegente", is a Venezuelan serial killer and cannibal. It is the worst registered murderer by victims in the history of Venezuela. Vargas was a homeless man who used to hunt his victims in Doce de Febrero Park, near the Torbes River in the city of Táriba, in the state of Táchira, 750 kilometers from Caracas. He was discovered on February 12, 1999. Vargas was one of the first known serial killers in Venezuela, murdering dozens of people, an estimated 40 people killed by Vargas. He is believed to have committed the crimes between November 1998 and January 1999, at which point the families notified the police of the disappearance of the deceased. Doráncel hunted his victims with a lance-shaped tube, dismembered them, saved the parts that he ate for cooking, and buried his feet, hands, and heads. His primary targets were unsuspecting athletes and laborers who worked on the river bank, yet he did not eat women or children As he did not have a refrigerator to store meat, he killed an average of two people per week. Doráncel Vargas was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, for which Venezuelan law makes him unimpeachable, and since there is no center with adequate conditions for his confinement in the country, he is kept isolated in a prison in the state of Táchira. The case of Dorangel Vargas is one of my favorites, I am currently working on a project with the biography of this murderer, and soon I will upload it on my YouTube channel.
