Devil's Advocate
The Devil's Challenge is over. Well within the specified time, even. From November 5 to December 31 - without a run - was the period to complete a fixed number of distances on foot. 666 kilometers in total for the entire Devil, 444 and 222 for the two and one third respectively. A special experience because you think you know in advance where you stand, but at the same time know exactly nothing about where you stand. You can only walk one distance per day and driving more kilometers is no problem, but ticking off more is not allowed. Planning can begin. I already had half (Gouda's) on my agenda and the longest distance (30K) was therefore the biggest challenge. More for less has happened sporadically because I managed to prevent this and when it comes to rest days, I certainly took what I could pack.
Especially in this period when there are few organized running events, it is nice to be able to participate in a digital and social media initiative in order to compete with yourself, the elements and the other participants. The support in the form of likes or hearts and words of encouragement to illustrate an image or a Strava Screenshot is more than welcome and the organization had also created an excel file where you could monitor progress while also providing clear and insight into what the other participants were (have been) working on.
Little by little and step by step, I've walked where time allowed for what I'm worth. Weather conditions were both bad and bad, intended distances were not always covered and sometimes a combination of circumstances meant that I was not alone. A smooth glider, resulting in rib pain, almost ruined the miles, but perseverance while blowing the breath actually makes the whole thing even purer.
With 2023 ahead, I'm still looking forward to a meaningful implementation of the upcoming strength efforts, off the beaten path, that is. As the devil's advocate. The counselor. The runner. me. #loveittrailit #evilchallenge #duivelsefinisher
